The Ivorian government signed two financing deals totaling €43 million (about $47 million) with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for the sanitation of 12 cities including the capital Abidjan. This was announced following the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.
The project covers the construction of an anaerobic digestion plant with a capacity of 500 m3/d in South Abidjan, a 500 m3/d sewage sludge treatment plant in West and East Abidjan, a 200 m3 /d sewage sludge treatment plant in Bouaké and a plant of 100 m3/d capacity in several regional capitals, namely Abengourou, Bondoukou, Daloa, Daoukro, Dimbokro, Gagnoa, Man, Odienné, Séguéla, and Soubré
In addition, the facilities will provide lasting protection for the population against water-borne diseases and protect the environment against pollution.
