In January 2018, Angola exported 620, 485 carats of diamond, generating $84.54 million (about €68.5 million). This was revealed by the country’s finance ministry in a monthly report.
In the same wake, the state collected 1.33 billion Kwanza (€5 million) as tax revenues from these sales. Plus, the average selling price per carat ($136.24) during this period was the second highest in monthly sales since October 2016 and the highest price per carat ($138.60) was recorded in November 2017.
The Angolan government wants to attract more investment in the diamond sector which is the country’s second-largest exports revenue provider after oil and gas. According to Diamantino Pedro Azevedo (photo) Minister of oil and Mineral Resources, diamond exports generated gross revenues of $1 billion in 2017, and the country aims to increase this figure during 2018. Let’s recall that Angola is Africa’s second-largest diamond producer after Botswana.
