Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari (photo), has at last returned to Nigeria after more than seven weeks of medical leave in the UK. He arrived the country early today and is expected to address Nigerians later to quell growing concerns about his leadership, according to his personal assistant, Bashir Ahmad.
The leader of Africa’s second-biggest oil producer has been facing rising opposition on his ability to govern a nation undergoing its first economic recession in 25 years, spurred by oil crash and an Islamic insurgency in the nation’s northeast. Buhari departed for the UK on January 23, 2017, for vacation and routine medical checkup before extending the holiday twice on recommendations by his doctors, leaving the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to act on his behalf.
This is the third time the President transferred power to the Vice-president since he came into office in May 2015.
