World Bank will grant Mozambique $150 million to finance the national program of road network improvement, a statement issued last May 8 by the institution indicated.
According to the document relayed byMacauhub, this amount which will be granted as a donation, should enable the implementation of many projects under the country’s integrated road development program. This mainly includes the improvement of road access for areas in Zambézie and Nampula provinces, with a particular focus on the rehabilitation of a 70 km section between the cities of Quelimane and Namacurra.
Through this project, authorities hope to boost the beneficiary regions’ agricultural prospective as yield has often been weakened due to inaccessibility. In the long term, the government aims to finance infrastructure projects in 10 districts with high potential, benefiting about 2.2 million people living in the targeted areas.
Let’s recall that last January, World Bank forecasted a decline in growth to 3.2% during this year mainly due to the country’s unbearable debt level.
