Samsung Electronics has started supplying the 708,000 tablets ordered by Egypt for the 2018/2019 academic year.
Indeed, the country issued a call to tender for these tablets and the South Korean company won the bid. These tablets will be freely distributed to pupils and teachers at public primary schools.
Last may, Tarek Shawki, the education minister indicated that these tablets would be supplied with preinstalled educational applications to avoid them being unusable in case of no connectivity.
The distribution of these equipment falls within the framework of the national programme initiated by Egypt to introduce IT in schools and facilitate learners’ access to more knowledge.
In 2013, the government offered 250,000 tablets to students of public secondary schools in Matrouh, North Sinai, South Sinai, the Red Sea, Aswan, and the new valley. However, this experience was unsuccessful because the recipients did not use them for their intended purpose. Instead, they used those tablets to play games or watch films in classrooms.
The new equipment will be equipped with the KNOX MDM which grants full access to the education ministry on the contents and use of those tablets.
