Coronavirus is now a pandemic, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus (pictured), Director-General of the World Health Organization, declared yesterday March 11 during a conference in Geneva.
He said the virus should now be considered so regarding the fast way it has spread into all continents and the alarming augmentation of cases. “Describing the situation as a pandemic does not change WHO’s assessment of the threat posed by this coronavirus. It doesn’t change what WHO is doing, and it doesn’t change what countries should do,” the WHO official said.
“In the days and weeks ahead, we expect to see the number of cases, the number of deaths, and the number of affected countries climb even higher. […] This is not just a public health crisis, it is a crisis that will touch every sector. So every sector and every individual must be involved in the fight,” he said.
Since the covid-19 was detected in December 2019, it has now touched over 120,000 people in 110 countries, with a death toll of at least 4,351.
