The African Development Bank -AfDB- approved $1 million in aid to Uganda to support the National Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) Preparedness and Response Plan. The loan agreement was signed on Wednesday, Feb 12, between the AfDB Uganda Country Director, Kennedy Mbekeani, the Ugandan Economic Development Minister, Matia Kasaija, and Dr. Rebecca Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa.
The resources will help better deal with suspected and confirmed cases of Ebola in the country. Part of the money will also serve to train healthcare personnel and ensure preparedness to respond to Ebola emergencies.
As a reminder, in August 2019, four Ugandans died from Ebola, so the government has put in place a program to combat the outbreak.
