The American economist selected as the 13th World Bank President announced he would resign in June 2023, about one year before the end of his mandate. No specific reason has been given to explain that decision for the time being.
World Bank Group President David Malpass (photo) will step down in June 2023, one year before his official term ends. The official announced the decision in an official statement released, Wednesday.
"This afternoon, I shared with the World Bank Group’s Board of Directors my intention to step down by the end of the World Bank’s fiscal year," he indicated on Linkedin without specifying the reasons for his resignation.
An economist and politician, David Malpass was selected as the WBG president in 2019, succeeding another American, the South Korean-born doctor Jim Yong Kim, who also resigned, three years before the end of his term.
His presidency was marked by the Covid-19 crisis, the war in Ukraine, and the fight against climate change and the mitigation of its impacts, particularly in Africa.
