South Africa could launch a plan to mobilize R100 billion ($8 billion) as investment, the country’s president Cyril Ramaphosa (photo) announced yesterday April 16.
According to the leader, relayed by Reuters, the mobilization will be entrusted to a team of economists and experts, composed, among others, of former finance ministers Trevor Manuel and Pravin Gordhan as well as former Standard Bank director Jacko Maree.
Commenting on the rather “modest” amount of investment to be mobilized, President Ramaphosa indicated the government's desire to figure out the best possible way to gradually revive the economy.
“We are modest because we want to over-achieve,” he said.
For the record, since he took office as head of the South African nation, Cyril Ramaphosa has affirmed his desire to revive a weakened economy and fight against corruption and mismanagement. His program had led World Bank to revise the country’s growth forecasts to 1.4% from 1.1 for 2018.
