Burkina Faso will disburse CFA68 billion ($128 million) to fight food insecurity, the Prime Minister Paul Kaba Thiéba (photo) announced last April 12.
According to the official, relayed by Xinhua, the resource is part of the food crisis response plan. Set to reach 83 communes vulnerable to food insecurity, this plan is expected to help more than 2.6 million people across the country.
This food issue, which worries the Burkinabe authorities, would be due to a decline in yield last crop year, especially in cereal production areas, leading to a cereal deficit of 477,000 tons over the period according to the United Nations.
Let’s note that between June and August 2018, eight provinces are expected to be in a food “crisis” (against six in March) while another 14 provinces are expected to remain in a food “stress” situation, according to the authorities' forecasts.
