Burkina Faso will disburse CFA14.614 billion to develop cotton sub-sector. The information was disclosed yesterday April 18 by Rosine Coulibaly (photo), the economy and finance minister, at the end of the ministers’ council.
The resource will be used to “restore operators’ solvency and facilitate access to inputs for the 2018-19 campaign”.
“This special government support reflects the cotton sector’s strategic importance to the national economy and its contribution to the improvement of people's living standards, especially in rural areas,” a statement from the government indicated.
Let’s note that this financial boost comes in a difficult context for the cotton sub-sector which recorded a drop in production to 553,000 tons in 2017/2018 against 683,000 tons in 2016/2017.
