With the Abidjan Exhibition Park, the Ivorian government has found a new avenue to showcase itself to the international world. Valued at more than $128 million, it would be the largest exhibition center in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa, according to local authorities.
Côte d’Ivoire inaugurated the Abidjan Exhibition Park on Monday, July 17, in a ceremony presided over by Vice President Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, a government release informed on Tuesday, July 18.
The impressive architectural complex sits on a 16-hectare site close to Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport. It includes a large exhibition hall, a 5,000-seat Convention Center, an administrative building, a semi-covered parking lot with 800 spaces, and various outdoor facilities. The Ivorian group PFO Africa undertook the entire project at 75 billion FCFA (over $128 million).
The Vice President believes this infrastructure will significantly enhance the promotion of the Ivorian economy, while also facilitating necessary structural and sectoral reforms to support youth initiatives. He stated, "The completion of this significant project will contribute to the structural transformation of our economy. The Abidjan Exhibition Park will host major national and international economic events. Its operation will generate direct and indirect employment in sectors such as agriculture, hospitality, trade, tourism, and more."
The Abidjan Exhibition Park is set to host various significant events soon, including the Made in Côte d'Ivoire Fair, the 6th International Agriculture and Animal Resources Fair of Abidjan (SARA), the 5th Ivorian Crafts Market (MIVA), and Archibat 2023.
