Burkina Faso: Civil society plans a protest on March 15 to decry the “systematic land looting” by real estate companies

Wednesday, 21 February 2018 12:05

A march will be organized on March 15, 2018, to protest the land acquisition practices of real estate companies and agencies. This was announced by the coalition for housing right defense associations (CADDL).

By doing so, the coalition intends to force the government to find “fair solutions" to what is considered as a housing crisis. "Instead of slums, we want social housing at prices that match our buying power; otherwise we will occupy the well-groomed vacant villas in Ouaga 2000 because we are all Burkinabe and we are also entitled to decent housing” threatened, Pama Nibié, CADDL’s Secretary General.

After purchasing hundreds of hectares at affordable prices, the real estate companies proceed with unacceptable land speculation that further compromise prospects of access to housing for unemployed and impoverished people and deprive farmers of agricultural land. We make a plea to all democratic, patriotic and revolutionary organizations to join the denunciation campaign to require from State, fair solutions to the housing crisis that affects the population,” he added, saying that they will march towards the ministry of habitat and urbanism.
