Last Feb. 19, authorities started compensating residents of the Glo-Djigbe district (Abomey-Calavi commune) who were expropriated in the framework of an airport construction project. This was reported by the daily newspaper Le Matinal.
“Amount paid as compensation depends on the size of the land from which one was expropriated. Hence, it varies between CFA3 million, CFA12 million and CFA81 million. Some land owners expropriated in the framework of the project received their check in the evening of February 19, 2018. This was in the presence of the minister of infrastructures, Cyr Koty, and also the director the national agency for land and property (ANDF) and commune authorities”, the newspaper wrote.
It should be noted that the government had offered, expropriated communities, to relocate them or pay them compensation that were highly debated, causing indignation even.
