The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the African Growing Together Fund (AGTF) are about to grant Rwanda a $171 million loan to develop a sanitation and water supply programme.
In the framework of the scheme, AfDB will provide $121.137 million while AGTF, the fund created by China and the pan-African institution itself, will provide $50 million. The whole project will cost $262 million of which the loan will cover about 65.24%.
Also contributing to the project will be the European Investment Bank (EIB) which will provide about 19.25% of the overall cost (about $52 million), and the Rwandan government which will provide the remaining amount, that is $40.69 million (15.51%).
About 1.1 million people should benefit from the water supply segment of the project while 475,000 people should have a better access to health services in towns such as: Kigali (the capital), Rubavu, Rusizi, Nyagatare, Muhanga, Huye, Musanze and Karongi.
