The government of Zambia approved a new financing mechanism for cooperatives in the Eastern Province to carry out climate actions. They received a total of $1.7 million in loans for projects aiming at safeguarding the environment, mitigating and adapting to climate change.
The strategy aligns with the “Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Project” which received $32.8 million from the World Bank. ZIFPL seeks to foster better management of landscape resources, reduce deforestation, and enhance economic and environmental benefits for rural populations.
The project will be conducted in three phases and will ultimately provide favorable conditions for investment in livelihood activities and support local policies to reduce emissions. A total of 16 groups and cooperatives in 11 districts of the province will benefit from this funding.
