The Government of Benin set a strategy to accelerate vaccination against Covid-19 on its territory. Since the campaign started, only about 0.18% of the population got vaccinated. Under this new plan, the government conditions access to public services on a vaccination certificate or a negative test of less than 48 hours. The announcement was made last October 20 following the Council of Ministers.
The government says not enough people have been immunized in the country to "consider lifting the Covid-19 restrictive measures taken on September 1, 2021.” Also, vaccination remains mandatory for all people working in the health sector, including medical and paramedical staff, pharmacists, and nurses. The administrative staff of public and private health facilities and the staff of pharmacies are also affected by this measure.
According to the latest figures from Africa CDC, only 0.18% of the population has been fully vaccinated so far.
