Nigeria will receive 12 Tucano fighter jets from the US in 2020. This was announced yesterday April 22 by US authorities during a press conference in Lagos (Nigeria).
According to information relayed by Premium Times, the delivery of these planes is part of a military equipment sale agreement worth about $ 496 million, previously concluded by both countries to combat Boko Haram in Nigeria.
Therefore, the fighter jets are set to be deployed in the country’s North-Eastern side to advance ongoing Nigerian Air Force’s operations against the terrorist group as it has been rendered “incapable of launching organized attacks”, according to the defense minister Mansur Dan-Ali.
Let’s note that this move comes few days ahead of the announced visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to his counterpart Donald Trump next April 30.
