Senegal’s President, Macky Sall (picture) revealed last November 20, why he did not accept and implement the recommendations that resulted from the last work session of the National land reform commission, which is presided by Prof. Moustapha Sourang.
The leader said that the central State would not transfer land management rights, particularly, leasing rights, to local collectivities.
Speaking during the Presidential council on investment, the Head of State was quite categorical in that regard. “I will not take the responsibility of transferring land management rights to local collectivities,” he said adding that if the right to lease was transferred to local collectivities, “the next month, there would not be a single available land in Senegal”.
“Land is a quite sensitive topic, and as such it must be handled responsibly,” Sall highlighted.
