In Mauritius, the tourism industry recorded more arrivals in 2016 than in 2015. Last year, the country received 1.28 million tourists, against 1.15 million the year before that (+11%). Tourism being one of the lungs of Mauritius’ economy, it generates substantial amounts of foreign currencies. Indeed, the sector generated over the past year nearly $1.4 billion.
The statistics office of the nation forecast a 4.3% increase in the number of tourist arrivals this year, reaching 1.3 million. Expected revenues amount to about $1.6 billion.
