Initiated by WAEMU’s commission, with authorities of Burkina Faso and Togo, a project to interconnect IT systems of Burkina Faso and Togo is actually being implemented.
Its aim is to equip and end traffic facilitation between both countries. Another goal is to reduce time spent at Cinkansé’s opposed checkpoints, from 2-3 days currently, to 1-2 hours.
In this regard, modern and appropriate equipment and will be needed and WAEMU has mobilized, for this purpose, with the financial support from Japan International Cooperation Agency, CFA400 million (CFA200 million to equip each country).
Overall, the project concerns Lomé-Cinkansé-Koupéla-Ouagadougou and Lomé-Cinkansé-Koupéla-Kantchari corridors. It will increase transit traffic and trade, reduce transport costs, improve road safety and more effectively fight fraud and illicit charges.
