Baba Akhib Haïdara (photo), the Malian Ombudsman, reported that land-related disputes were one of the top complaints handled last year, a situation mainly due to an infrastructure deficit. This was during the presentation of the 2017 activity report.
“All along the year (ed: 2017), the services of the Republic’s Mediator received 189 requests. They concerned many sectors including, among others, public land management with 61 cases, justice with 46, pit management 28, social protection 27, procurement contracts 5, private litigation 3, education and other cases 17. These figures show that there are more land claims and complaints,” the Ombudsman explained, according to comments relayed by Le Challenger.
Let’s recall that the Mediator of the Malian Republic is an institutional alternative to the judicial system.
