Capital releases by the Federal Government of Nigeria to Ministries and Agencies in the 2016 budget has amounted to N1trillion ($3.2billion).
The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun (photo), who disclosed this on Sunday said the capital spending is the highest so far in the country’s history.
The amount according to her, was released for various projects including the commencement of the construction of a dual standard railway line that would link Lagos and Kano, rehabilitation of roads, expansion of irrigation facilities to boost agriculture as well as the upgrading of aviation infrastructure across the country.
Giving a further breakdown of the releases, she said the amount includes a total release of N935.5billion to the MDAs as at the end of February 2017, amongst others.
“With the current stability in the oil price and the return of normalcy in Niger Delta, I am sure we will do more this year (2017),” Adeosun said.
