During the audience, the economist reminded the objectives of IMF’s mission in Gabon. They also discussed the evolution of the country’s mining sector, its challenges in the economic diversification strategy. Moreover, they exchanged on the ministry’s needs, the Bretton Woods institutions’ support in implementing major mining projects (resources and infrastructure) to rapidly increase the share of the sector in national GDP and create jobs for youths.
After fruitful exchanges, the Gabonese mine minister was asked to send a summary note of its ministry’s needs to World Bank (whose mission is also to deal with mining sector’s issues via the economy ministry). The mining minister will also update the statistical data of his department to facilitate the assessment of the economic recovery program and backers’ decision.
