Morocco: Land-grabbing victims resort to the King to address issue

Monday, 28 May 2018 21:06

In the face of lack of progress in the complaint-handling, members of the Association for Law and Justice in Morocco (ADJM), gathering land and legacy grabbing victims , have just resorted to the King to address the situation. Huff Post reports.

ADJM which is seeking for an audience with the King plans to leverage the Cherifian sovereign’s actions against land grabbers to further legal resolutions. “For more than 10 years now, we have been pulling efforts to raise awareness, alert and call on relevant senior authorities to address this crucial issue but without any success,” the organization indicated.

Moreover, ADJM launched an online petition. “Hundreds of victims are deprived because land grabbing is breaking them down. This is destroying many families that cannot face the grabbers. Hundreds of families are despaired and feel betrayed by their country’s justice to the extent that they no longer want to return to their homeland”.

Therefore, ADJM suggests a battery of actions including the repeal of article 2 of the Code of Real Rights, the creation of a compensation fund for real victims as well as a specialized unit with a dedicated prosecutor's office and a police brigade. It’s also planned to apply very consistent penalties to sanction grabbers.
