The African Development Bank (AfDB) approved $98.2 million in financing to Senegal to upgrade road network, an institution statement said June 27.
The money will be pumped into a project aiming at redeveloping the 172-km Sénoba-Ziguinchor-M'pack road axis and opening up the South region. It will also serve to rehabilitate/build nearly 165 km of departmental, rural access and urban roads.
Authorities hope to cut transport costs, customs checkpoints as well as the time limit to assist road crash victims. According to AfDB, the project estimated at $197.5-billion will also impact the agriculture sector, increasing the country’s processing capacity and improve road accessibility for surrounding populations. Most importantly, it would boost the region's commercial development.
Let’s recall that this scheme is co-financed by the European Investment Bank, European Union and Senegalese government.
