Congo’s Republic hosted yesterday April 29, the first summit of African Heads of State and Government on the climate committee and the Congo Basin Blue Fund.
The goal of this summit, which gathered eleven African heads of state, was to mobilize funds for the Congo Basin Blue Fund which is designed to protect the basin (220 million hectares) considered as the planet’s second ecological mainstay.
In the framework of the Blue fund project, the waterways should be renovated, small hydroelectric dams built, irrigation systems strengthened and fishing promoted. In the long term, it will enable the region’s economies to migrate from a logging-linked economy to an economy based on river management resources.
Let’s note that this summit comes almost a year and a half after the fund was launched during the COP22 in Marrakech.
