Niger Telecom Regulator Presses for Better Service Quality

Niger Telecom Regulator Presses for Better Service Quality
Tuesday, 01 October 2024 19:46

Niger's Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation Authority (ARCEP) is taking steps to ensure telecom operators provide top-quality services to consumers. Colonel-Major Chaibou Idrissa, the Director General of ARCEP, visited Moov Africa Niger and Airtel Niger on September 30 to address recent service disruptions in the country.

During his visit, Colonel-Major Idrissa explored the reasons behind these issues and held discussions with company officials about their operations and employee working conditions. This move comes as telecom consumers in Niger increasingly voice complaints about poor service quality, especially on social media. High costs for these services have also been a growing concern.

Service quality in Niger’s telecom sector has been an ongoing issue. In January, Communication Minister Sidi Mohamed Raliou urged operators to expand coverage and improve the quality of electronic communication services across the country.

These actions are part of Niger's broader government plan to make digital technology a driving force for socio-economic development. Minister Raliou emphasized the government's expectations for the telecom sector to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development efforts, which remain a key focus of the national digital development policy.
