Nigeria will benefit from the £1.2 billion the British government plans to invest in many African countries to create growth.
On October 29, 2018, Alessandra Lustrati, Senior Private Sector Development Adviser & Head of Digital Inclusion at Department of Foreign &International Development (DFID), declared that part of the fund will be used in the IT sector via the provision of telecommunications access in unserved or underserved areas in the country.
The British government’s representative explained at the end of her talks with Umar Garba Danbatta (photo), executive vice president and managing director of the Nigerian communication commission, that the funds will also be used for cybersecurity and capacity building.
The UK plans to launch the implementation of these projects in April 2019.
According to Umar Garba Danbatta, about 40 million Nigerians out of a total of 190 million are still without access to quality telecom services. The financial support the company will receive will help it rapidly solve the problem that hinders the nation’s economic growth.
