The mobile number portability considered in the Botswanan telecom market since 2012 should be a reality this year.
Before the parliament to defend her ministry’s 2019-2020 budget, transport and communications minister Dorcas Makgato (photo) announced that the portability should be introduced in the country during the new fiscal year that started on April 1, 2019.
This will boost competitiveness and profit clients because telecom operators will offer quality services, better network coverage, added-value and prices to retain their existing users.
By the way, the announcement excited actors in the country’s telecom market. For instance, Anthony Masunga, chief operating officer of BTCL, explains that there are information indicating that there will be a drastic change in the market once the portability is introduced.
He estimates that beMobile, which currently has a 16% market share, will rapidly acquire more market shares from its competitors thanks to its quality of service.
