Gift Machengete (photo), Director General of Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ), announces the upcoming entry of new telecom operators into the national market.
On the sidelines of a Parliamentary Committee on Information and Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services workshop held in Nyanga, Mr. Machengete announced Zimbabwe will soon license new mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs).
Gift Machengete stated a legal framework has been put in place for that purpose. The aim is to enable more Zimbabweans to access quality telecom services regardless of whether they live in urban or rural areas. Jenfan Muswere, Deputy Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, said that in addition to this legal framework, the Attorney General's Office is also working on a number of laws to make the ICT sector more equitable and secure.
These include data protection, child protection, cybersecurity and electronic commerce, which should help the government to combat fraud, money laundering and embezzlement.
