The Zanzibar Information Communication Technology Infrastructure Agency (ZICTIA) has signed a capacity service contract with ZanLink Internet Services. The documents were initialed on September 1, 2020, by Shukuru Awadhi Suleiman, ZICTIA's chief executive officer, and Sanjay Raja (pictured), ZanLink's chief executive officer.
According to Sanjay Raja, through this one-year renewable contract, the country’s Internet service provider will be able to improve connectivity by increasing bandwidth. It will carry out this operation by relying on the national ICT backbone, deployed by the government of Zanzibar.
Mustafa Aboud Jumbe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, justified the increase in Internet capacity granted to ZanLink as a necessity. According to him, at a time when the world is struggling with Covid-19, the Zanzibar business community needs reliable and affordable Internet services to import and export goods. He stressed that Internet access has become such an important element in people's lives, saving time, and simplifying socio-economic activities.
