Airtel started building a $10 million data center in Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital city. According to Dapo Olasope, director general of the telecom firm, the infrastructure, for which first plans were developed in June 2014, aims at improving quality of communication provided to consumers.
The Airtel data center is an extension of its network infrastructure to bring it to the same level as network in countries with advanced technology. Dap Alasope said Airtel Sierra Leone, through this data center, is deploying the most recent technologies to insure that its customers have a stable, available network, redundancy and capacity and support to develop new services with added value. With a service capacity of 10 million subscribers and support to two thousands sites, Airtel’s should help develop information and communication technologies.
In a market where it competes with Comium, Africell (Lintel), Sierratel, Cellcom, Datatel, Ambitel GreenN and Smart Mobile, Airtel who is the leader, plans to, by improving its customers’ experience, achieve Airtel Africa’s main goal namely becoming consumers’ favorite brand.
