Mozambique’s communication institute (INACOM) reveals that the government will gain $83.4 million from the sale of frequency spectrums to telecom operators.
In a release published on November 30, 2018, the regulator indicated that three types of bands, 800 MHz, 1800MHz and 2.6 GHz, notably were auctioned during the month.
Five lots of 2x5 MHz were for sale in the 800 MHz range, six 2x5 MHz for the 1800 MHz range and nine 2x5 MHz lots for the 2.6 GHz range. INACOM indicates that only the 2.6 GHz lots were required by Vodacom Mozambique (VM), Movitel and Mcel (Mozambique Celular) while the other spectrums were left out.
The regulator also informs that payment for the acquired spectrums will be made in three tranches. The first tranche representing 34% of the amount proposed for the lot was made in November 2018. The second and third tranches representing 33% of the lot’s value each would be made in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
