Wim Vanhelleputte (photo), former MTN Uganda’s managing director expelled from the country on February 14, 2019, referred to Kampala high court requiring the rescission of that measure.
He also asked for legal damages for illegal imprisonment and expulsion as well as any compensation he would deem appropriate.
Wim Vanhelleputte, married to a Ugandan since 2000 with two kids, indicates that he is a regular visitor. He explains that the ministerial ruling was taken without a legal procedure by an administrative authority and left him no chance to defend himself as the law would have wanted.
Let’s note that Rob Shuter, CEO of MTN group, is set to visit Uganda in the framework of the Africa Now summit that will be held on March 12-13, 2019 at the Commonwealth Resort & Conference Centre, in Munyonyo. Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni will also take part in the summit.
