By fostering strategic alliances and showcasing the nation’s digital potential on the global stage, the company is not only unlocking investment but helping shape a future where every Ethiopian is connected, included, and empowered.

Safaricom Ethiopia is deepening its engagement with global partners as part of its mission to accelerate digital transformation and inclusive connectivity in Ethiopia. In a recent visit to the United Kingdom, announced May 2, the company’s Chief External Affairs Officer, Dr. Andualem Admassie, met with key government, business, and investment leaders to strengthen ties and highlight Ethiopia’s growing digital opportunity.

Among the high-level engagements was a discussion with a UK Member of Parliament and the Chair of the Board of British International Investment (BII), focusing on Ethiopia’s telecom liberalisation and the path forward for inclusive infrastructure development.

The visit also included a meeting with Her Excellency Baroness Ramsey, the UK’s newly appointed Trade Envoy to Ethiopia, who expressed strong interest in furthering trade and investment collaboration in the sector.

This outreach aligns with Ethiopia’s broader digital ambitions. According to a joint report by Ethio Telecom and the GSMA, Ethiopia’s digital economy could contribute up to 1.3 trillion ETB (about $10.8 billion) to the nation’s GDP by 2028. This growth potential underscores the transformative power of digital connectivity in driving economic progress, job creation, and service innovation.

Safaricom Ethiopia’s outreach represents a bold commitment to realizing a digitally empowered Ethiopia.
