During a meeting with the media on June 3, 2019, in Abuja, Sunday Dare (photo), the executive commissioner of the Nigerian Communications commission, revealed the latest projects being implemented by the institution.
The commissioner indicated that Nigeria was ready for the 5G. To elaborate on a launching plan, the organisation of a forum is being considered. The NCC also launched new consultations for the attribution of drones spectrums and is currently discussing with government and telecom operators for the deployment of new technologies.
Broadband licenses have also been attributed to infrastructure operators. The regulator currently plans to work with those operators for compliance with optical fibre deployment agreements.
The NCC also plans to work with telecom operators to facilitate their introduction on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). In that framework, Airtel has already gotten in touch with the stock market’s commission and NCC also plans to support Globacom and 9mobile for their introduction
The regulator indicates that subscribers’ identification is really important and the ongoing audit is aimed at eliminating hacking risks and the use of the internet for criminal purposes.
