Last weekend, in Kisumu, Kenya, Jerome Ochieng (photo), Principal Secretary for ICT and Innovation, launched the project initiated to connect Kenyan districts to the national optical fiber network. For this project, the government invested Ksh10 billion ($99,124,012) and, it plans to connect public administration, hospitals and schools etc … to the internet.
According to Jerome Ochieng, Kenya has decided to focus on the ICT sector to implement the Big Four agenda. "The ICT is an enabler of the Big Four as it plays a critical role in Kenya’s socio-economic development (…) ICT will enable the government provide Kenyans seamless services in addition to giving them an opportunity to access services anytime at their convenience", the official explained.
He further added that the project is aimed at reducing operating costs, fight corruption, improve effectiveness and efficiency.
Let’s note that the project will be completed within five years.
