Uganda inks MoU with Microsoft

Tuesday, 13 November 2018 17:31

On November 12, 2018, Uganda signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Microsoft.

Via this MoU, the American tech company will help set a conducive environment for Uganda’s IT development and socio-economic development ultimately.

"We are committed to provide technical support to the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance in equipping the government innovation hubs with the necessary tools and skills that will harness a 21st century developer ecosystem in the region and by developing technical excellence, Uganda will be well poised to develop next generation applications. Initiatives such as our Partner Skills Hub, as well as identifying the correct AppFactory model will be key in rolling this out", explained Sebuh Haileleul, Microsoft country manager for East Africa.

According to Frank Tumwebaze (photo), Ugandan minister of ICT, the agreement with Microsoft will help the country reach its development goal by 2040. He further explained that this was an important step since it would allow knowledge transfer and improve the quality of local innovators so that the country could be able to export its innovations.
