Botswana’s BTC doubles capacity on AMOS-7 communication satellite for rural connectivity

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) doubled its capacity on the Spacecom’s AMOS-7 communication satellite. With this measure, BTC gets a backhaul and various long-distance communication services to improve rural connectivity.
The company could now provide enhanced broadband Internet to businesses outside big cities and roll out Wi-Fi hotspot services all over the country. According to MD Anthony Masunga, BTC is working with Spacecom to reinforce its commercial offer and add new and exciting services that will significantly reduce Botswana’s digital divide and “offer citizens in previously underserved areas more options to communicate throughout Botswana and beyond.”
“Satellite communication via AMOS-7 is facilitating our growth and fulfilling our purpose, which is to provide superior communication solutions to Botswana anywhere and everywhere to enable them to live connected,” the manager said. The new satellite deployment will not only meet the company’s expectations in terms of connectivity and coverage but also increase revenues.
For David Pollack, MD of Spacecom, by the end of the year, his company will have three satellites (AMOS-7, AMOS-4, and AMOS-17) serving Africa.
