A new Internet access provider has just entered the Liberian telecom market. Indeed, the Liberian Telecommunications Authority (LTA) recently granted an individual/universal license to JamCell.
Thanks to that license, JamCell will not only be able to enter the voice and data segments. In fact, JamCell will offer Triple Play service in the country.
According to the LTA, JamCell will offer its services with the technical partnership of Ericson, a Swedish group specialised in the realisation and deployment of telecom networks. Their model will be narrow-band based technology, an alternative to LTE, to meet the growing connectivity demand. By the way, the technology will be a pre-5G platform for cellular services and anticipated applications of the smart-city.
JamCell will start operations in 2021. The firm will invest about $100 million during the validity period of that license. Part of the fund will be used as license fees; some will be used for spectrum acquisition and infrastructures development.
