The Egyptian Minister of Information and communications Technology, Amr Talaat, met with Myron Brilliant, the Executive Vice President and Head of International Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, on July 16 in Washington. Talks focused on the implementation of a bilateral partnership between the two nations’ ICT private sectors.
According to Amr Talaat, this will help Egypt leverage the U.S. expertise in the ICT segment to better support SMEs and entrepreneurs. The two officials also went through ways of cooperation between the two countries to increase the effectiveness of Egyptian skilled and professional personnel in various technological fields, as well as cooperation in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, as part of the initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology. Cooperation mechanisms in digital transformation were also discussed.
Amr Talaat says Egypt is seeking such partnership with the United States to attract more U.S. companies to its ICT market. In that regard, the country has engaged since 2014 reforms to consolidate its IT infrastructure and create an enabling environment for investments. The more foreign companies in Egypt, the more jobs and opportunities for economic growth, the Egyptian minister believes.
