On February 19, 2019, Abdeslam Ahizoune, president of Maroc Telecom’s administrative board met with Chad’s president Idriss Deby. During the meeting, they discussed the investment opportunities open to Maroc Telecom in the country.
According to Abdeslam Ahizoune, this meeting is the result of the call issued by Chad’s president to international investors.
For Maroc Telecom, Chad is an emerging market disputed by two operators, Tigo and Airtel namely. But, those two operators are unable to cover the whole country. Truly, the 4G is available but, it is not available in every region in the country. In addition, service quality is still poor. This is thus an opportunity to step in and develop the digital sector, Abdeslam Ahizoune thinks.
Let’s note that in 2014, Maroc Telecom took part in an international tender call issued for the privatization of incumbent operator Sotel but the operation was not successful.
