The mobile telecommunications operator Inwi, owned by the Moroccan group Al Mada, has just hit a big milestone by launching 4.5G network, a premise to the forthcoming 5G. Thanks to this new configuration, the operator can offer its subscribers high speed network up to 1 Gbps download speed. Inwi explains that with this speed, a subscriber can for instance download a 26 gigabyte 4K UHD.
To achieve this perfomance, the operator drew on the Chinese tech company Huawei’s expertise which enabled it to use “the massive MIMO 4X4 and new generation network functionalities”.
Let’s remind that the 4.5G network is a mobile or wireless system using multiple-antenna transmitters and receivers allowing long range transmissions at higher throughput.
According to Fadoua Bettioui Laroussi, Planning & Performance director at Inwi, this new technology will let “individuals and companies enjoy a speed similar to that of the optical fiber with the flexibility confered by mobility”.
Inwi also indicated that apart from being a simple entertainment tool, its 4.5G network will help make “telemedecine in health centers, distance learning and many other applications a reality. ”
