Gabon will invest CFA150 billion in digital technology over the next three years. This was stated last April 19 by the communication minister Alain Claude Billie By Nze during the 8th edition of IT & Telecom Africa forum on digital challenges held in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire).
The fund will mainly be directed, among others, to improve the quality of internet services, which has become essential for communication within the country.
The minister pointed out that the government's objective is to improve the internet penetration rate through the deployment of fiber optics, notably. “To date, Gabon has 3 million mobile phone subscribers, an internet access rate of 99%; fiber optics will be deployed to cover the whole territory,” said the official according to whom “the internet is obviously becoming a necessity”.
