According to the “Daily news Egypt” website, starting from September 28, 2017, telecoms subscribers may enjoy 4G internet on mobile phones in Egypt. The information was revealed by a senior official of the National Authority of Telecommunications Regulatory (Anrt).
This should reassure all Egyptians who had doubts concerning the scheduled launch of the technology (this month), announced on September 11 by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser ElKady.
With the 4G network, the Egyptian government will expand broadband in the country. According to the Ministry of Telecoms, the 4G network should allow the country to have 500,000 new Internet users during its first year of activity. This falls in line with the government’s plans to get 1,500,000 new Internet users and achieve a 50% penetration rate for Internet, by 2018. Khaled Ali Negm, Egypt’s telecoms minister, claimed that for every 10% growth in the penetration rate of the Internet, the country’s GDP would increase by 1.8%.
In its 2014 report, the GSM Association (GSMA) indicated that broadband can help the Egyptian government generate $43 billion more in the GDP and help create 1, 2 million jobs by 2030.
