During the second extraordinary meeting of its cabinet, Gambia decided to reorganize its incumbent operator Gamcel. This decision was taken following the joint recommendations of the IT and finance ministers Ebrima Sillah and Mamburay Njie, in a report.
Under this reorganization project, the mobile branch of incumbent operator Gamtel will be reorganized and state-owned shares sold.
This is to guarantee an independent management of the mobile telephony department. It will thus be more competitive and offer innovative and quality services.
Gamtel will also be reorganized to make it more efficient and profitable. The ministries also recommended acceleration of the international telecom gateway’s liberalization thanks to a monitoring system managed by the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA).
On the national telecom market, Gamcel competes with Africell, Comium and Qcell.
