In Nigeria, a visiting German trade delegation has shown interest in the country’s gas supply.
According to the delegation which was led by the Vice Minister for Economic Affairs & Energy and Member of the German Parliament, Uwe Beckmeyer, Germany plans to develop business relationship in order to fast-track the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) particularly in ship building industry.
Beckmeyer added that Nigeria’s LNG will be useful since it is far friendlier to the environment, as the Germany and other European industrial powers endeavor to cut down carbon dioxide (C02) emissions caused from heavy industrial operations.
“We have a lot of interest in LNG and I think this is one special thing we should develop in the next few years. I think there is increasing demand in Europe especially as we seek to reduce emissions. It is useful for both sides to develop this special business relationship,’’ he told the Nation.
The delegation was received by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu who said the oil and gas industry is prepared to welcome the improved business relationship voiced by the German trade delegation. He stated that the Federal Government is however, working diligently with other key stakeholders to certify the start of LNG Trains 7 which will assist in housing potential off-takers from new markets.
