South Africa: Shell in talks with Iran to resume oil supply

Shell has commenced talks with Iran for the supply of oil to the Anglo-Dutch company’s refineries in South Africa.

According to the South African Deputy Minister of Energy, Thembisile Majola, most refineries in South African refineries are controlled by foreign companies and they could be encourage to resume trade with Iran since sanctions has been lifted, Mehr news reports

For his part, the Executive Director for International Affairs at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), Seyed Mohsen Ghamsari (photo), stated that in spite of the commencement of negotiations, no final agreement has been arrived at yet.

He said grounds are to be made available for selling oil in line with pre-sanctions period which reached 100 thousand bpd. Ghamsari added that more than a few negotiations have been carried out with Shell, BP as well as PETRONAS “overall, Iran will supply a portion of oil required by Shell’s refineries in South Africa”.
