Ghana has banned imports from Nigeria and other countries from which it gets crude oil amongst many other products.
According to Ekwow Spio-Garbrah (photo), Minister of Trade and Industry, Ghana and Nigeria’s trade, account for approximately 68% of the region’s gross domestic product (GDP). He added that Nigeria had the advantage in the transactions.
Nigeria accounts for about 10% of Ghana’s foreign trade volume. The move could lead to additional problem for Nigeria which is currently striving to get buyers for its principal export. The country is seeking to achieve some benefits by barring imports from Nigeria and other countries.
Despite the difficulties, Ghana continues to be Nigeria’s biggest trade partner and preferred investment hub in the West African sub-region, Daily Independent reports.
